Sage Erickson (USA) und Kanoa Igarashi (USA) haben die Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach gewonnen. Vor tausenden von begeisterten Surffans holte sich Erickson den Sieg des 6. Events der World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) und Igarashi der Men’s Qualifying Series (QS) 10,000.

Im Finale besiegte Erickson die 2016 Event Siegerin Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW). Für die 26 jährige ist dies ihr erster Sieg auf der Championship Tour und bringt sie auf Platy 6 der Weltrangliste.

Mit ihrem 2. Platz steigt Weston-Webb auf Platyz 8 der Weltranliste und liegt damit einen Platz vor der 3-fachen Weltmeisterin Carissa Moore (HAW).

Auf ihrem Weg ins Finale besigte Erickson Courtney Conlogue (USA), Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) und Moore.

Kanoa Igarashi aus Huntington Beach konnte seinen Heimvorteil und den Support der Zuschauer für sich nutzen und sich im Finale gegen Tomas Hermes (BRA) durchsetzen.

The 19-year-old was beside himself as his friends and family rushed in the water to the crowd’s deafening applause for his first-ever Vans US Open of Surfing QS 10,000 win.
